[Christmas was over, but under her tree Ruri had found a box containing her favorite neko costume and a card pointing to an area in the Nadesico that had been newly recovered. The Onsen. Taking a few days to enjoy it all to herself, she has been somewhat absent as of late unless you live with her in which case she's been spending a lot of time on the ship. However now she has decided to deal with the outside world again]

Action 1 - Locked to those listed below

[If you are GLaDOS, Death, Death, Minato, Scott Pilgrim, Minato, Hiccup, Quinn, Crowe, Caesar, America, Cuba, Spain, Taiwan, Nadeko or Madoka then Ruri is knocking on your door with a box under her arm and a slight smile on her face. If she lives with you odds are there is a gift too, but you'll have to get her at home because knocking on her own door seems silly to her.]

Action 2 - School

[Your guidance counselor is back today and for more than a half hour or so. If you are in an art class she may be sitting in the back, or if you are the kind to try and snag some free peanut butter cups there is a bowl of them on her desk when she's in the office.]

It seems its been about a year I've been here and a lot of terrible things have happened but we've all well... Done as we do. This time the city decided to return to me the Nadesico's onsen and while I have enjoyed it for a few days, I think things like that are best shared. I'll be opening it to general use if you promise not to fight in it, or generally make a terrible mess of things. Actually those are the rules of any of the Nadesico's facilities that may open up. I'm not here to pick sides, I'm here to try and understand this place and do what I can to help keep people sane.

Action 3 - The Nadesico Onsen

[Ruri has just finished cleaning it and is sitting outside reading a book. There is a side with pink curtains and a side with blue ones, and if one were to peer inside, there is the an onsen that probably takes up too many resources for a sane war captain. Good thing the Nadesico has never been captained by a purely military mind.]

[The past few days there had been a drone of Ruri running around, but now she was replaced with some normal unremarkable drone girl in the house on Stevens as Ruri woke up just before sunrise in a new house, in a new bed, next to a sleeping figure with a confused look on her face. Outside the house at 947 Beulah Street, hovering over it with its loading ramp down covering part of the driveway hovered the Nadesico-C, sitting there as the sun just began to glisten off its hull.]

Action 1 - 947 Beulah Street

[Dressed in a simple dressing gown and bathrobe Ruri peers about the house, she looks a bit older than she did just days ago, though not much. She walks outside to look around, looks at the address and lets out a breath.]

Two years... I see. I wonder how long its been here.

Phone -

I'm not sure how long I was droned, several years passed at home so I'm not sure what has been happening here. I remember a nuclear bomb attack and that's about it. The town seems to think I'm the guidance counselor at the High School now. If the Cosplay Cafe is still open could someone let me know? Also if there is any new data to be analyzed. Also apparently the Nadesico is here with me, though I need to check all of her systems over.

Action 2 - School

[Ruri walks into the school, now not as a student but as the force that guides the children to mental stability and prosperity. You may find her wandering the halls occasionally, or sitting in her new office, putting out a bowl of little chocolates. After school you will find her sitting at cheer-leading practice, looking horribly unimpressed.]

Why is coaching this my job again?

Action 3 - The Nadesico

[Its big, its shiny, its just hovering there, over the house, and the lot behind the house, and the street.... Its really freaking big. Ruri is at the entry ramp going over several holoscreens and "hrm"ing a lot.]

[Late at night there was something outside, something out of the ordinary so she went out to scan it, sadly Omoikane reported a chance of contamination so she chose to get her sleeping bag out and nap in the back yard. Come morning when she was larger than the yard she just sighed]

And of course only my slip grew with me.

Action - Streets of Mayfield

[There's a 30 foot tall deadpan snarker walking the streets, she's trying not to step on anyone, but it looks more like its because she only has socks on]

Why did Mayfield decide to become a terrible movie?

Action - Mayfield Highschool

[She's peering in the windows for a while, before she taps lightly on the ones to the science labs, its hard to miss her though]

[While Ruri went to school today she kept a low profile during it. Maybe you saw her moving through the hallways with a very tired/blank expression on her face, maybe you didn't. Something does seem to be bothering her a bit though.]

Action: Schoolyard

[There are several holographic panels floating around Ruri, each one shows a different person that she knows who is droned, has been droned lately, either temporary or permanently that she has interacted with in the past month or so. She's quietly singing something under her breath and looking at them with her usual neutral expression but the song, www.youtube.com/watch?v=It1UpXDCOts, is a bit defeated in tone]

There has to be some commonality that causes this to be reversible, so its just finding the pattern in some that isn't in others.

Action - School

[Ruri has been going to school but missing a lot of classes and spending her time in the science club, today she's decided to go to class. You may find her ignoring the teacher and staring into a book with a holoscreen in it if the teacher is a drone, staring out of a window or trying to pay attention if the teacher is an actual person who doesn't seem to be an idiot. She does seem to be kind of wrapped up in her own thoughts though and moving in a fairly mechanical fashion]

"I'm looking for two things if anyone can help. The first being a person who was given the doctor job in this town to write something for me. The other thing is scientists of the less than orthodox methodology. Mad scientists if you will. I want to try and do some boson jump experiments without CCs and breaking the laws of temporal physics gives me a headache... Probably it gives most sane researchers a headache."

Action 2 - Cosplay Cafe

[Ruri is there in her maid outfit, sweeping outside the front of the cafe and looking at the stars]

[Ruri saw the milkman was being put in charge and decided that it was probably easy to just drink the damn milk as opposed to deal with anything, she could run it through cheese cloth to filter out the spiders and razor blades and well, if it was poison, she figured she'd feel it and could call someone who could fix her up. The problem is she got special milk and had no concept of how to deal with that.]

[Ruri is in the yard, laying on the ground looking at the clouds muttering to herself]

[Ruri is standing there holding a bouquet of weeds, staring off into the clouds]

Computer Action:

[If you have a computer connected to Omoikane after about 7:30pm an annoying popup with a map of the town and a red dot near Makeout point flashing will appear, and won't go away, if you close it, 2 will appear, so forth and so on]

[Ruri is laying in a heap, still breathing, but barely, at the bottom of the cliff, coated in dirt and cuts]

[Ruri is still rather beat up after her brush with the fender and still feeling a bit odd from the healing magic. She just looks pale and is moving slowly, but she still isn't doing a lot of it other than a few simple chores]

Action - Cosplay Cafe

[Still, she is working, see that girl in the maid outfit selling tea? She'll gladly take your order and probably chat a bit, but she looks rather tired]

Action - 2242 Stevens Road

[Coming home from work she spots a box on the front lawn with her name on it. She'll take it to the porch, set it down and open it. These have all had computer components in them in the past, but, this one has something in it that causes her to quietly close the box and start crying.]

"It seems several of you are new and awakening here. I'd like to welcome you to Mayfield, but I can't. Its a terrible place. One part prison, one part psychological experiment. If you need help... I'm Ruri, feel free to ask. I honestly could use some sort of distraction right now and while the best explanation of what is going on is held by Mr. Rose at the library, I can fill in some gaps."

Action - The streets of Mayfield

[If you're from Japan, you know the cheery tune of the street vendor's ramen flute. Playing a delightful little tune to announce fresh ramen. Well, that instrument is playing the tune, but its got the tempo of a funeral dirge as a little girl in what looks to be a Ramen cart attendant uniform with a frilly apron walks by playing it. A very blank expression on her face.]

"The town is doing something, making people tell the truth about everything. If you feel the need to tell it to everyone, call me and I can set up a hologram of someone who can nod, but has no hearing capacity. That way you can tell it anything you want and suffer no real risks. I'm somewhat compromised myself, but luckily all my secrets are stupid so its mostly harmless... Still I've had the oddest thoughts about neurotoxin chemical compounds."

[If Ruri knows you, and you've either spewed insanity on the phone or gone completely quiet, she'll be knocking at your door with her usual deadpan look]

"A stupid question but... You seem to be an expert. Would you be willing to tell someone what exactly love is?"

"Scott is acting a little weird, I think whatever is in the air is hitting him doubly hard, would it be okay if I stayed with one of you for a few days, either till this blows over or the droning issue happens? Its not that I'm really worried about safety, but he locked himself in the only bathroom."

[Action] 2242 Steven's Road front yard

[Ruri woke up, she was of two minds and neither of them meshed. It'd be easier if that other voice wasn't screaming things in her head like 'memory default' or 'faulty backup data, please express caution' then other loud thoughts about cheerleader tryouts for next year didn't scream in her head in retaliation.]

"I.... So many memories...."

[Phone]

"I.... I am having odd thoughts... Bad thoughts... Ones that would make baby Jesus cry. Does anyone want to help me forget about them? I turn 16 on Thursday so maybe we could plan a party, or you could help me train for the chee.... No. Those are stupid. Such a headache. Omoikane is trying to run a system scan on me but it keeps coming up in fault. Does anyone else have things like this going on?"

[Action] Rec Center

[Ruri is sitting at the edge of the pool with a confused look]

"I know I prefer doing this but gosh, I need to practice if I want to make the team. No. Wait. Still not right."

[Action] 2242 Stevens Road

[Ruri comes across a box and opens it peering inside with a sigh]

"Well, that's not the most useful module but... After 3 or 4 hours of setup...."

[Phone] Standard Filters

"I just received another part of Omoikane, his wireless backbone. If anyone has a computer with wireless or something and would like to access it as long as you are willing to agree to a few simple terms and not use more than 5 gigabits of band with at a time I don't really have a problem with it. I'm cloning my data drives that have the movies and music from my world and could probably host other servers. That being said, I can't guarantee security on anything if I let other people use this."

[Action] School

[Ruri is in class today, spending most of her time staring out the window though. She's not paying attention, but she never does, the thing is when a question is asked of her, she seems disoriented and confused for a second as opposed to just blandly answering it and going back to paying no attention at all]

[Action] Cosplay Cafe

[Ruri isn't working today, but she's sitting at the cafe with some tea that has long since gone cold and a book that she has had to the same page for at least 45 minutes now. She's quietly staring out at the crowd as it goes past, looking to be in deep thought]

"Do any of you come from worlds with large areas of undisturbed nature? I'm a little curious what that is like, especially given light how everything is growing. Maybe that's why I've been so distracted....."

[Spring break has come, and everyone is still being an idiot about that stupid dance. How is Ruri reacting?]

Action 1 Around town

[For most of the week, shortly before the neighbors start throwing furniture at each other but after sunrise Ruri heads outside her home at 2242 Stevens Road and waters a patch of dirt by the front fence, then takes a walk to the park and sits by the pond reading till about 10. However, normally she would nod to people, now she's just sort of staring at the ground as she does so. Feel like stopping her? Go ahead]

Action 2 Cosplay Cafe

[Ruri always shows up to work early, gets changed and tends to open her shift by sweeping the sidewalk in her maid outfit, after a little while though, especially if its slow, she'll be seen in the back, a 24' holographic screen hovering in front of her, with either an anime on, or playing a video game. Mind you, if a customer shows up she'll be up and handle them quickly, but its all in her usual deadpan]

"I have a question, maybe the wizards would know, maybe people who know more about men. My town approved brother, he spends 6... 7.... Sometimes 8 hours in the basement... 'Keeping his snake happy.' Is this normal for 16 year old wizard boys because it seems a little odd to me. That being said, I don't know a thing about magic, but some of the odd noises from down there. I guess this is why he made everyone agree to not go in the basement."

[Early in the morning, Ruri is up before the sun as usual and shortly before she goes to school she makes a call]

[Phone 1}

"I know its early, but, I was curious if anyone knows a or even better yet, a band of shady mercenaries that would be willing to take a job for tactical information instead of cash. I don't have much money to offer, but I've finished my analysis of the chaos at the dairy and the various things people can do. That, and I'm not strong enough to wield a shotgun effectively."

[Action 1]

[After school Ruri will return home to see the porch littered with boxes, opening one she will blink and take three steps back. ANYONE on or near Stevens road will hear something odd, a very loud and girly scream which is.... Not Scott's loud girly scream as she starts sifting through the boxes quickly]

[Phone 2]

[A few minutes after the box issue]

"I know it may be an odd request, but, would anyone be able to help me carry several boxes up to my room. It seems Omoikane finally came here, just... I can't quite lift all the components to get them into my room. A super computer that takes up half of a mac truck trailer is a bit much. I would appreciate it if anyone who could would be willing to help. That and, once Omoikane is assembled, anyone who wishes to come to 2242 Stevens road is welcome to come because his data module was included and there are several movies and animes from home in it. With my holo projectors I can probably make it like a drive through theater in the back yard, but, I don't make popcorn. If you want that bring it on your own."

[Action 2]

[After having set up the computer she is in the back yard, with a movie theater sized screen just floating there. If you are a hero of justice, the theme of the lost great Gekiganger III playing may entice you to hear its clarion call of love, honor and justice. If you have a lick of taste in movies though, it may inspire you to make snarky comments."

"Omoikane... We could play something else for once you know."

[Things have calmed down slightly, and Ruri has is moving about]

[Action 1] School

[Ruri has been distracted most of the day in school, at lunch she distantly pokes her food, but doesn't seem to eat it]

[Action 2] 2242 Stevens Road

[Ruri is sitting out on the porch, there is a holographic screen in front of her and a game controller in her hands. You can see some odd 8 bit looking thing with humanoid toads on rocket sleds dodging walls, which she seems to be getting past with no real issues, but she does look to be lost in thought. Bother her at your own risk.]

[Ruri is knocking on the door with her backpack hanging off one shoulder, looking around a bit]

[Ruri is out and about, picking up something from the pharmacy and 2 cakes from the bakery, she seems rather preoccupied though]

[Action 5] 729 Anderson Lane

[Ruri walks up to the front door and knocks, looking slightly less deadpan and slightly more determined than usual]

"Maybe I should have asked Scott to bring his bass to back me up. No, that's stupid."

[Action]

[Ruri has been recovering from the panic and nonsense of last week, but, she's lost most of her stress relief outlets. In the morning she heads out for a bit, walks up the Stevens Road, sighs, then walks back down headed inside]

"Things have been a little odd the past week and.... Scott doesn't know how to drive so I don't think he'd notice if we started looking over the available resources a car generates. That and between us all I think maybe we could start some sort of.... Something to do."

[Action 2] (1252 Williams Road)

[Later in the afternoon Ruri is walking up to said house with a box, its a little big for her and she has to set it down before knocking on the door]

[Ruri is wandering about downtown, she'll stop by the cafe where she met Taiwan and the comic shop looking about]

[After a night barricaded in her room Ruri was itching to actually be able to do something about this. That and the phone calls, now she was proficient in how zombie movies were, and as stupid as it was this town may just be stupid enough to try some odd take on that. But school would be soon, and that meant the streets would be full of drones, she'd have some ability to move and maybe could find others. Lets face it, being alone in a zombie movie is death]

"This is Ruri Hoshino. Last night, I heard a number of horrible things over the phone and I think to some degree have been stalked by one of those monsters. If anyone is still about, I'm leaving with the school crowd to try and find a central safe place to be. Maybe Mr. America's space ship, maybe by that lady with the mecha. However, I think its important that those who can meet some where so there is the safety in numbers thing going on. I'd love to hear any ideas though, I'm trying not to be afraid, but, its not working well."

[When the children of Mayfield are on their way to school, Ruri will join them using a rope of blankets she made and do her best to make sure she is in a large group of them, however, looking completely out of place, feel free to stop and or join her.]

[At school, she's going right for the science club, just to see what is available there, also, if you see her and she knows you, she'll probably try and grab you to come with her, which is odd, because she rarely is this aggressive in initiating conversation.]

[She's been here a month now, maybe a little bit more, and the routine she is starting to settle into has been bothering Ruri. That with the added issue of her 'father' going absolutely batty about assumed assassins or midnight rendezvous has left her feeling a bit unhappy.

[Voice]

"Two things. First, someone announced yesterday that there was a spy in town but didn't state for who, then mentioned something about him pretending to be a sniper? While this doesn't make a lot of sense, if there is a spy, perhaps till we all find out who it is, it would be best not to use the phones for anything important."

"Second, for the people who have been here a while, and what you do doesn't fit into this world's views, is there some way or some place to get in touch with what makes you you without threat of retribution by the town?"

[Action A]

[In the morningish, Ruri will leave home, deliberately leaving the door unlocked and not setting up any barricades because that's stupid, head to the park and break a largish hole in the ice over the pond. After that she'll sit there with her eyes closed by the hole.]

[Action B]

[Its Sunday, and that generally means people will be in the church. While she won't be one of them, she will be looking about the gravestones outside for one that is so faded that it has no name.]

[Action C]

[Later in the day, after all government employee types should have left, she'll be near the post office, marking the street and mapping the area in her notebook. Normally she does this with a bland deadpan expression, but this she's doing much slower than her other mappings and almost looking like she's just going through the motions.]

Current Mood: pessimistic

[Its been a few days since she got here and Ruri has spent most of the time in her room, removing the "clutter" (IE anything disgustingly cute) so that she can have a distraction-less and pristine work environment.]

A) [ Ruri has put up with school for two days now, and completely failed at any attempts of not calling someone baka when they did something stupid. Luckily, she's actually saying it in Japanese so not many people know what it is. She's spent time in the library trying to find papers by Einstein, Pauli, Heisenberg or Oppenheimer, and looking deadpan when they keep giving her books on the joys of cooking. God have mercy on any home ec teacher that may try and convince her to give up her search.]

One would think, given the location there would be science papers, or at least a science club. Its a wonder that humanity got out of the 1950's.

B) [In desperation Ruri picks up and makes her first unfiltered call to Mayfield, still in her horribly deadpan voice.]

"Hello. I am Ruri Hoshino, and am looking for people who have access to scientific texts or computer parts. Preferably people who aren't idiots. I am at 2242 Stevens Road, however, I am also reachable at the school as I was told attendance was mandatory or else. Any help would be appreciated as I believe that I am not the only one who has come here against their will. While I have no counter offers for help, I believe the more minds working on this the sooner a solution to the situation will become apparent. Thank you."
