A distortion field is an energy barrier that will stop most forms of energy projectile and several forms of physical ones. It will also do fairly terrible things to flesh if they come in contact.
An Astevalus is a 10 meter tall humanoid robot that a pilot can control. The Nadesico had a compliment of 6 to act as fighters and to handle the smaller targets that it couldn't easily target.
