Where: The bowling alley

[So she woke up in some bowl o ramma place, Ruri was used to weird things here. The kind of fancy dress was a bit silly, but the place seemed empty despite being set up. At least there was food to be found but the silence]

"Hello? Is anyone here?"

Humanity has the capacity for great evil in general. I've seen some of the worst in people and some of the best, and it is surprising just how good and bad that is.

It had seemed there was too much bad and not enough good. The knights of the Round Table were certainly good, but many people were ungrateful.

[Frowns, he's still bitter about that]

And then there is me... if I were to be sent home suddenly, would I return only to kill Mother?

I can't answer that question for you. All I can say is that people are idiots, but being stupid isn't the same as being bad. I knew a lot of good dumb people, and go home or not. While you're here you are my friend, and I believe you are better than that.

[He'd never really seen it that way before]

I had never taken particular notice of intelligence... True, I was born with all the knowledge of Gaia, but what I hated about people was their greed and selfishness and cruelty. Even the poor and downtrodden can be greedy and cruel.

... I cannot even imagine it, but as angry as I was, I had not harboured such thoughts, either. I... cannot help but love my creator, but I'm afraid of what she would turn me into should I return.

Greed is a base level fault. Its not something that is so much taught but learned. One has to learn how not to be greedy, its one of the faults in the human condition. Realizing this can help you better understand people and if they don't want to learn to get past it... That's just how they choose to be an idiot.

I hated humans for a long time because it seemed that they could never rise above their baser instincts.

[Pause, and it's a blow to his pride to admit this]

Well... that isn't completely true. I hated them for how I thought they would treat me. It's easier to be kind to those who are kind to me first. I dislike those who are not.

Its only human to want to be with people who treat you well. Honestly though, I've known jerks that weren't nice and it was just easier to ignore them, dislike takes a certain emotional connection.

I wish I had Mother's ability to control her emotions... I can't help not feeling something with any person. I try to avoid those I dislike, but I cannot seem to ignore them.

No. You don't want that. Most people who can do that do it more because they are afraid of what will happen if they let their emotions out. I know that I am.

Mother is the same... but I just... wanted her to love me. It's not fair that she had to become cold just because the people would not accept her unless they believed she was a man.

[She puts her hand on his arm]

I'm sorry Mordred. I really am.

[He shakes his head and smiles]

It's still a little humiliating to think about it, but it's all right now. She has accepted me, that is all I had ever wanted, even more than the throne.

Then just be happy for that.

[She nods a little]

I need little else than Mother and friends. Even with these confounded sorceries, I have all I want in this village.

[Oh wait, he did want to find out more about her, didn't he?]

But what about you, Ruri? What was your life like before you were summoned here?

Oh. I was captain of a battleship, the Nadesico. We were hunting the last of the Jovian Masculine Assault Squad... Stupidest name ever for an insurrectionist movement. It was really either that, or go back to Peaceland and take up my duties there because Minato couldn't afford to raise every orphan of the Jovian wars from the ship.

[He does remember her talking about a ship before, but he didn't know she was the captain]

Command of a battleship... that is most impressive for someone of your age. Our own navy is small, and the captains are nearly always old men.

Yes... I'm the youngest captain in the fleet. The fact that I was genetically engineered for the role helped a considerable amount though.

Not unlike why my creator made me... to take the place of the king. But I failed, and so even being made for a task is no guarantee of success.

[His failure still stings, but these days it's only just the failing itself rather than the burn of rejection. So there's progress]

I didn't so much have a purpose in creation other than to be better than every one else. It was kind of silly and stupid. I think that's why the process was made illegal. That and the failure rate.

That is what my creator said about my birth, but... she always pushed me to take the throne from the king. And so I think that is why she created me, though she said that I was better than humans.

There are other homunculi like me, but... their purpose is different, though few magi of the latter eras coin us. Certainly not like me.

Well, the failure rate for the engineering project I was from was 95% so... It just was bad science.

I really don't know though.

Homunculi are imperfect, as well... apparently only one family is still capable of creating them well. I believe they use this 'science' to simulate True Magic.

We're the products of humans, and humanity as a whole is imperfect I guess. Its not something I spend a lot of time thinking about though.

I've spent a good amount of time on it, but only because my creator refused to allow me to interact with them when I was younger. I was only told that to them, I am a monster.

That was unfair of her, you're a very nice person Mordred.
